Virtual Race Details:

We are going to make the best of this situation that we’ve all been put in, and ride together in spirit!  By participating, you’ll still have something to motivate you to get out and put in those miles.  And you’ll still get to have a sense of accomplishment, of finishing a goal that you’ve set for yourself, and a sense of togetherness with the gravel community!   You’ll also be supporting a grassroots organization that has been putting on races for 20 years for your riding enjoyment!  So join us, on our first ever (and hopefully last), Gold Rush Virtual Race/Ride/Tour!

  1. Price for the Gold Rush Virtual Ride will be $45.  You can register on bikereg.com.  Registration will close on May 31st.  Thank you for your support and I hope this will be a means to keep everyone motivated to ride and have fun!!

  2. Every participant that finishes the distance they signed up for will receive an event T-shirt, finishers patch, Hammer Nutrition samples, and their name entered into our raffle for some great prizes from our sponsors.  Raffle items will include a single person bike rack from 1UpUSA, 5 tyre wizes from our sponsors at Quarq, several jerseys, t-shirts and socks from our sponsors at Twin Six, several Strider Bikes from our sponsors at Strider Bikes, some sweet bags from our sponsors at Dirt Bags, a custom wheelset from our sponsors at VelocityUSA, a set of gravel tires from our sponsors at Teravail, and a variety of other prizes from our sponsors at Two Wheeler Dealer, Rushmore Bikes, Acme Bicycles, Dykstra Pottery, Black Hills Vision Care, Crow Peak Brewery and Munro Earthmoving!  This raffle will be recorded and posted up on our Facebook page.  Prizes/awards and event items will be mailed to every race participant! (we will mail to the address you used when you registered, so take a look and make sure you have the correct address in your registration).

  3. To make if ‘official’, Print off the # plate and attach it to your bike.  Then finish your virtual distance ride, sometime between June 1st and June 15th, by however means you’d like.  Ride a trainer, ride a course in your hometown by planning a route that has the same distance as the ride you are signed up for, or if you come to Spearfish or are a local, you can ride the Gold Rush course you are signed up for if you’d like!  The only requirement we’ll have is to take a minimum of: 1 picture/selfie of yourself on the ride, and 1 picture of your odometer, strava, or whatever means you use that will show us that you completed the ride and correct distance, sometime between the 1st and 15th of June. These pictures will be shared on our Facebook page to celebrate the completion of your ride.  Let’s make this interactive and see all of the rides people accomplish!  Email pictures to Kristi Jewett:  kj@kristijewett.com.

  4. We will also have some special prizes that we will award!

  1. Prize for best poem.  That’s right, get your creative juices flowing and email us a poem about your ride.  Best poem wins a prize.

  2. Prize for best photo of an animal.  We love animal sightings while out on our gravel rides.  While completing your ride, if you see an animal, snap a photo of it to send us.

  3. Prize for best photo of bike on course!  We love beautiful pictures with cool scenery and a bike.

  4. Prize for best dressed.  Wear a costume on your ‘virtual’ ride and you could win a prize.  You may get some funny looks out there, but hey, it will be fun(ny)! Photo needed.

  5. Prize for oldest rider to finish virtual ride.

  6. Prize for youngest rider to finish virtual ride.

  7. Prize for most elevation gained.  If you like to climb, make it fun and find a course with the most elevation!  Whoever rides the most elevation wins a prize. (sorry short coursers, if you want to win this one you may have to do hill repeats! ha)

  8. Fastest (mens and womens) strava time up the Cement Ridge Climb during your race/ride! (sorry to those who are from out of town and won’t be able to ride this segment).

*We encourage all riders to practice social distancing, and if you ride with others keep the groups small with plenty of spacing!  If you are riding a longer distance, we highly suggest having a family member as a support person in case something should happen on your ride where you need assistance. We will also allow a support person to provide you with food and or water on the ride since there won’t be any aid stations and you may not want to use ‘convenience stores’ for resupply. You will be responsible for yourself out there, so be smart and make wise decisions regarding your ride!

Make sure to tag #goldrushgravelgrinder and @ridge_rider_racing on instagram so we can share your rides on our story!  Thank you and we can’t wait to see all of your virtual rides for the Gold Rush Virtual Race/Ride/Tour.

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to us by emailing Kristi Jewett kj@kristijewett.com.

Race Transfers and Refunds:

THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS!

We realize things happen which may prevent you from participating in the race.  So yes, you are taking a risk in registering for our event.  With this in mind please realize that there are no refunds due to any circumstances including injury, and we do not allow you to forward your entrance to the following years event.  We do however, allow you to transfer your registration to a friend up until June 1st, for a $10 transaction fee.  It is your responsibility to find someone to transfer your spot to.  Contact Kristi Jewett at kj@kristijewett.com to transfer your race entrance.   If you do not feel comfortable taking the risk of registering for our event, please do not register.

You may change distances for a fee of $10 (+ the difference in registration price if you are moving up to a longer disntance), up until June 1st.  You may not change your distance after this date! You will receive a DNF if you complete a distance that you did not sign up for.

For those of you that want your race entrance fee refundable all the way up to race day, bikereg.com offers registration insurance for an extra $16.  You will need to read through their policy to see if this is something you want, some restrictions do apply.  Keep in mind, if you do not purchase the insurance through bikereg.com you are subject to the rules and deadlines of the Gold Rush Gravel Grinder transfer/refund process!

Why no transfers/distance changes after deadlines,or late registrations??

Event Cancellation Policy
As a fellow cyclist, we are confident you know what it means to take risks. Much like riding down a steep rocky descent or committing to ride a distance outside of your comfort zone, risk is inherent in our sport. The act of registering for the Gold Rush Gravel Grinder event, although not quite as dangerous as riding your bike, presents risks. In 18 years of putting on bike races, we have never had to cancel a race, but if an act of nature or other event beyond our control occurs, what can event participants expect?

  1. Event director decisions will be based on participant safety & environmental impact. Often times these decisions are in the hands of the land owners or agencies our events are permitted through.

  2. Event directors cannot accept the risk of a cancelled event for reasons beyond our control. Participants are respectfully requested to accept the financial risk of their individual entry, and understand that you will NOT be refunded any portion of your entrance fee if the race is cancelled.  This is due to the fact that our fees have already been payed for all supplies and services associated with the event.  These include permits, insurance, third party vendors, administrative expenses, rental fees, and other related expenses,
